THE DEMISE OF THE GRID

Moving away from the one-way centralised grid

Until recently, the “Grid” has provided us with affordable and reliable power.

Today we see the demise of the grid as we know it: a centralised, one-way monstrosity. We cannot afford to keep pumping carbon dioxide into the air. The science is clear. We have to transition from burning fossil fuels to renewable energies. Not overnight, but at a steady rate.

The business model of established energy network providers falls apart. The uptake of solar power leads to falling peak demand. Utilities can no longer make the profits they enjoyed in the past.

Changes to the tariffs that penalise solar power owners are already happening. It will be counter-productive by driving more and more customers into grid-independent power supplies.

Customers are “taking the next step” by adding battery storage to their solar power systems.
The demise of the traditional grid can be delayed, but it cannot be avoided.

THE NEW (RENEWABLE) GRID

The future will be a 2-way grid with renewable energy local grids connecting to other local grids and utility grade solar and wind power stations via much fewer high voltage transmission lines.
