The Federal government has announced rather modest targets in the lead-up to Paris later this year. Modest as they are, there is no way that ‘Direct Action’ will ever will ever be able to achieve these targets. This leaves buying foreign abatement certificates, sure to blow a hole into any budget, or allowing controversial measures such as burning wood wastes (= renewable energy?) on a very large scale. The obvious choices such as roof top solar or wind power don’t seem to appeal to this government.
As a last resort there is always nuclear, although all experts agree that nuclear power plants commissioned today won’t be ready for action for at least 10 years – too late to stop dangerous climate change. In any case, we are in for a stormy ride!
